What finishes and colors do you offer?

We offer a number of high-quality finishes or will provide a primed unit for you to apply a painted top coat.  If you want your unit sanded and ready for you to finish, we can do that too.  Please see our Finishes page.

What kinds of finish do you use and how many coats?

For stained interior doors and windows we apply the stain coat and 3 coats of catalyzed lacquer.  For our exterior units, we apply the stain coat and 3 coats of catalyzed polyurethane. Our interior and exterior primed units receive a white, alkyd-based primer which can be top-coated with either a latex or oil-based paint. Please see our Finishes page for stain colors.

What are your standard mullion sizes?

By mullions, we mean the wood pieces that hold glass panels together. Our mullions are 1 1/2" wide.  Of course we can provide widths to meet your specific design needs - just ask us.  Please see our Technical Info page for sizes and profiles.

What is stave core construction?

Stave core provides the most stable, longest-lasting, solid wood door construction.  The stiles and rails are made up of 1 1/8" thick pieces of wood, glued together and then veneered with the species of your choice. Please see our Technical Info page for a typical cross-section.
